Finance admin

Upwork's roles table describes finance admin in one line, access to account reports and management of budgets, and lists three permissions: access account financial reports, export custom reports, and approve budgets for hiring. That is the whole published definition.

Read alongside what Upwork says about agency money. The role sits in the same table agencies use under Teams & Members, so it can go to a member who looks after the books. The context from Upwork's agency finance article:

• every agency contract pays into the agency account, and the balance is withdrawn on a schedule the agency sets or on demand;
• payments from the agency to its members are not protected or facilitated by Upwork, and the agency is responsible for tax records and worker classification;
• payment terms match those of individual freelancers, with service fees that vary by client and a weekly billing cycle on hourly contracts.

What it does not cover. Finance-related notifications go to the Account admin role in Upwork's table, not to finance admin. Where Upwork names who can change roles, memberships or exclusive members' settings, it names the owner and the Account admin. Upwork also says only the agency owner and agency admins can buy agency Connects, and it does not say whether finance admin alone counts as an agency admin for that purpose.

When to use it. An agency that wants someone to read and export the financial reports without being able to restructure the team or change the account's configuration can give that person finance admin rather than account admin. Roles are assigned per person, and Upwork's wording elsewhere assumes one person can hold more than one.

Upwork publishes no list of which individual reports the role opens, so the exact view is best checked from a finance admin's own login.
