Agency account
An agency account is the company-level account a freelancer opens inside their single Upwork account to work as a team, with its own profile, membership plan, Connects and earnings balance, separate from the owner's freelancer account.

Upwork allows one account per person for life, and inside it one freelancer profile, one agency account and any number of client accounts. The agency account is created from the freelancer side: Account settings, Contact info, Additional accounts, New Agency Account. A freelancer account must exist first, and each freelancer can create only one agency.
What is separate from the owner's freelancer account.
- Its own agency profile and its own agency Job Success Score.
- Its own membership: adding team members requires Agency Plus, billed separately from any freelancer plan.
- Its own Connects, which cannot move to or from the owner's freelancer account.
- Its own earnings balance: every agency contract pays into it, and it is withdrawn on a schedule or on demand with the same methods individual freelancers use.
Money inside the agency. Paying members is the agency's job, on terms the agency and its members agree. Upwork does not protect or facilitate those payments, and the agency is responsible for tax records and for classifying members as freelancers or employees.
Contracts still name a person. Even though the contract is with the agency, Upwork ties it to an individual freelancer's profile for tracking work and communication; earnings still roll up to the agency account.
Closing it. Only the agency owner can close an agency, after removing members, closing contracts and proposals, and withdrawing funds. The owner's freelancer account stays active.
One agency, not two. A team that wants a second brand cannot open another account to get it: a second main account breaks Upwork's rules even when the purpose is legitimate; see multiple accounts.
