Proposal attachments

Proposal attachments are the files and profile items a freelancer or agency adds to an Upwork proposal to show relevant work, such as documents, images or linked portfolio projects, next to the cover letter.

The proposal form has a section for showing the client what you can do. You can upload files, and individual freelancers can also link items from their profile, such as past Upwork jobs, portfolio projects and certificates, as profile highlights. Agencies cannot add profile highlights, so an agency proposal relies on uploaded files and the letter.

What Upwork accepts. Most file types are accepted. Upwork names .doc, .docx, .pdf, .txt, .ppt, .gif and .png, and says the supported types are "the same everywhere attachments are available": proposals, job posts, projects and messages. This article states no file-size limit for proposal attachments.

They are editable for a short time. Attachments and profile highlights can be changed together with the cover letter until the client views the proposal or the edit window after sending closes. After that only the terms can move.

What they are for. The client reaches an attachment only after deciding to open the proposal, so a file never rescues a letter whose opening lines did not earn the click. Its job is proof: a sample close to the job, a short case study with a result in it, a screenshot of the thing the client is asking for. A generic company deck adds weight without adding evidence, and a client skimming many proposals will not open it.

Keep contact details out. Upwork requires all direct communication to begin on Upwork and does not allow contact information in proposals, which covers the files attached to them as much as the letter.
