Upwork MCP server

The Upwork MCP server is Upwork's official Model Context Protocol endpoint, announced in August 2026, that lets a supported AI agent search, read and act on an Upwork account, with every write shown as a preview the person must confirm.

Updated

Also written: Upwork MCP, Upwork Model Context Protocol.

MCP is an open standard for connecting AI agents to outside services. Upwork's version lets an agent search jobs or talent, read proposals and contracts, and prepare actions such as a proposal. On proposals Upwork is explicit: an agent can help draft one, and before it is submitted "you'll review the proposal details and explicitly confirm the submission." The live connector works that way for every write, including an optional Connects boost bid on a proposal. If a confirmation fails, Upwork asks you to check your proposals and Connects balance instead of retrying.

Rate limits. Upwork's limits article sorts every action into five categories, each capped per minute, per hour and per day, all three at once, counted per Upwork user and reset daily at 00:00 UTC. Job posts, proposals, offers and invitations share a cap of 20 a minute, 60 an hour and 150 a day. Search and discovery allows 15, 150 and 750; profile viewing 5, 75 and 250; edits and other changes 4, 15 and 40. The limits are the same for every account whatever its plan, earnings or Job Success Score. Hitting one carries no penalty, but usage far above them can lead Upwork to throttle, suspend or terminate MCP access.

What it does not change. Connects, invitation limits and the Terms of Service apply to MCP actions exactly as on the website, and the Upwork API and MCP Terms of Use govern any custom workflow. MCP is not a licence for the practices described under auto-bidder.

How Upsight uses it. Upsight runs a separate MCP server of its own, authenticated with a workspace API key, which controls Upsight campaigns, drafts and knowledge profiles from Claude or any MCP client. An approval sent through it is the same action as the approve button in the queue, and a campaign in dry run mode still files nothing.
