Consultations

Consultations on Upwork are paid one-on-one meetings that freelancers with a talent badge list among their services, priced per 30 minutes and booked by clients against the freelancer's available hours.

Who can offer them. Individual freelancers holding Rising Talent, Top Rated, Top Rated Plus or Expert-Vetted. In an agency, only Agency Managers who are exclusive members and earned a qualifying badge through the agency can create them. Eligible freelancers find the option under Find work, Your services.

What you set up:

  • a category and up to five areas of expertise, plus custom topics
  • 30-minute meetings, 60-minute meetings or both, at a rate per 30 minutes
  • the documents you will deliver afterwards, with at least one required "to qualify for Upwork's Payment Protection", and how many days you need to send them
  • availability through a connected Google or Microsoft calendar, set hours or both, with at least one hour's minimum notice
  • client requirements and optional FAQs
  • a gallery of an intro video, up to 20 images and two PDFs

A freelancer can create up to three consultations, in any available work category. Availability settings changed on one apply to all of them.

Instant consultations. Top Rated and Top Rated Plus freelancers who have already sold a consultation can tell clients they are available to meet now.

Where they fit. Consultations sit beside catalog projects in the same services area and go through the same review, but sell time and advice rather than a deliverable. For an agency they are a low-commitment first step a client can buy without posting a job, and no Connects are spent to win it.

How Upsight uses it. Upsight's Services module splits a workspace's listings into consultations and projects and reports views and orders for each, so the two kinds of offer are not averaged together.
