Late bidding
Late bidding is proposing on an Upwork job hours after it was posted, once its measured activity shows the client is still looking, which an Upsight late-bid campaign does by checking each job at 1, 4, 8 or 12 hours against limits on proposals, invites, interviews and hires.

Upwork's own advice before spending Connects includes checking "if the client has hired anyone yet" and assessing activity on the post, since many proposals or ongoing interviews may reduce your chances. A late bid reads that activity at a fixed age instead of guessing at it in the first minutes.
The case for it: a job that is twelve hours old with few proposals, a client still sending invites and nobody hired is a client whose first wave of proposals has not produced a hire. A careful letter arriving then competes with fewer, and against a client who is demonstrably still recruiting.
How a late campaign decides. Upsight takes hourly snapshots of open jobs. At the campaign's check age it reads the snapshot nearest that age and tests the limits set: at most so many proposals, at least so many invites sent, at most so many interviewing, nobody hired, and the client active within a set number of hours. A job without a snapshot never passes, since unmeasured is not zero. Presets such as "Struggling to fill" are starting points and need keywords and client filters on top, because on their own they match a broad slice of the marketplace.
A late campaign may bid on jobs a normal campaign skipped, since an underrated post is often just a badly written one; only a proposal already live on the job blocks it. A late-bid campaign starts with approval switched on, so its drafts wait for a person, and approving one cancels it if the job has been filled, closed or removed since the check.
How Upsight uses it. Late bidding is a timing option on a campaign, late matches are tagged as such in analytics, and the snapshots it reads are the same ones behind proposals at 12 hours and keyword difficulty. Speed to bid is its opposite strategy.
