Proposals at 12 hours

Proposals at 12 hours is Upsight's measure of how contested a job is: the number of proposals a job post shows about twelve hours after it was published, read from the post's own activity count and averaged per keyword and per category over 30 days.

Updated

A job post shows its proposal count as a range under "Activity on this job". Upwork's proposal insights article explains what the range holds: "relevant proposals currently being considered by the client", including organic proposals and replied invitations and excluding withdrawn, declined or archived ones. The exact count, with how many were opened, shortlisted and messaged, is shown only to Freelancer Plus accounts and counts organic proposals only. The bucket boundaries of the range are not documented anywhere official.

The count at the moment you look is a snapshot. Taken at a fixed age it becomes a measure: a job with 50 proposals twelve hours after posting is a different market from one with five, whatever the budget says, and a keyword whose jobs average 50 at twelve hours is one where speed, position and a boosted proposal decide who is read.

Upsight reads the count from hourly snapshots of recent jobs, takes the reading nearest twelve hours after publication, and never counts an unmeasured job as zero. Averaged over 30 days per keyword it is the keyword difficulty score, capped at 60 proposals for a score of 100; averaged per category it is the figure the planned category pages will print, from 64 categories measured since August 2026.

How Upsight uses it. The score sits beside each keyword in rank tracking and campaign setup, so an agency can choose keywords where its keyword rank and its reply rate are achievable, and a late-bid campaign uses the measured progress of a job to bid hours after posting instead of first.
