Payment verified
Payment verified means Upwork has confirmed the client's billing method, and the job post says so in the first line of its About the client section.

Upwork defines the badge by its absence. When you open a job post, "you'll see whether we have verified the client's payment method in the first line of the About the client section"; in Project Catalog it is the first line of the client's Company Information. Unverified means one of two things: the client has not verified a billing method yet, or there is a problem with the one on file, such as an expired card. A client can show as unverified and still have paid for earlier projects, because the status is about the billing method today.
The consequence is financial, not cosmetic. Upwork "can't process payments to you until the client successfully completes billing method verification", and on an hourly contract Upwork Hourly Protection does not apply while the client is unverified. Verifying a bank account means confirming two small deposits; Upwork tells clients that freelancers "are more eager to apply when they see a verified billing method".
Unverified does not mean fraudulent. New clients post before they verify, and a share of them verify and hire later; UpHunt's measured post on the subject is the best public reading of how many.
How Upsight uses it. Payment verification is one of the client fields Upsight reads on every job and shows to the scorer, so a campaign's client filters can skip unverified posts or let the score weigh them, and the Connects a proposal costs are spent with the risk known.
