Upwork RSS feed

The Upwork RSS feed was a per-search feed of new job posts that any feed reader could follow, which Upwork discontinued after August 20, 2024 and has not replaced with an equivalent public feed.

For years an Upwork job search could be turned into an RSS address, and freelancers, agencies and many tools followed new jobs that way. Upwork's deprecation article states that it "officially discontinued support for RSS feeds after August 20, 2024", and that anyone who used them must move to on-platform features.

What Upwork offers instead. The same article names four:

  • Saved searches. Filters such as budget, experience level and category saved to a search that appears on your job feed.
  • Notification settings. Account preferences for how and when platform alerts arrive.
  • Job digest emails. Sent periodically to holders of the Rising Talent or Top Rated badge.
  • Recommended jobs. The personal feed, matched to your profile and work history.

Instant job alerts on Freelancer Plus are the fastest of Upwork's own options, but they follow your individual proposal history and ignore proposals sent through an agency.

Why it matters for tools. A feed reader polling a public address was harmless. Many tools sold as RSS replacements instead run searches on Upwork with a signed-in session, and Upwork's automation article lists "job alert or watcher tools that scrape or run searches" among the browser extensions that can trigger an account restriction. The route Upwork accepts for programmatic access to jobs is an approved API key, within its use case and limits.

When a tool advertises an Upwork RSS feed today, the question to ask is where its jobs come from: Upwork's API, a search run on someone's account, or a page scrape. Only the first is a route Upwork documents.
