What employers advertise for an Upwork bidder
An Upwork bidder is the person at an agency who finds jobs and writes and sends proposals. Upwork has no salary data for the role, so we read the job boards where agencies hire for it: 10 listings in Karachi, 5 in Lahore and 8 in India, every one with a stated monthly base. Each listing and its link is on the bidder cost calculator page.
The "typical" figure below is our own: the median of the midpoints of every listing that states both ends of its range. Karachi's nine closed ranges have midpoints from PKR 45,000 to 130,000, and the middle one is PKR 95,000. Lahore's four give PKR 45,000, 55,000, 65,000 and 80,000, so the median is (55,000 + 65,000) ÷ 2 = PKR 60,000. India's eight give a median of (25,000 + 26,000) ÷ 2 = ₹25,500.
| Market | Listings | Lowest | Middle (median of midpoints) | Highest | Middle in USD | With commission or bonus |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Karachi, Pakistan | 10 | PKR 40,000 | PKR 95,000 | PKR 150,000 | $343.34 | 8 of 10 |
| Lahore, Pakistan | 5 | PKR 25,000 | PKR 60,000 | PKR 100,000 | $216.85 | 4 of 5 |
| India | 8 | ₹10,000 | ₹25,500 | ₹100,000 | $268.62 | 0 of 8 |
USD at 276.69 PKR and 94.93 INR to the dollar (ExchangeRate-API, 2026-11-03). Lowest and highest are the ends of any listing's range, so in USD: Karachi $145 to $542, Lahore $90 to $361, India $105 to $1,053.
Most listings sit between $160 and $400 a month; one Indian range reaches $685 at its midpoint.

The spread inside a city is wide. In Karachi, the lowest closed range (PKR 40,000 to 50,000) has a midpoint of $163 and the highest, for a bidder with three years' experience, PKR 120,000 to 140,000, $470. Experience shows at the top: the highest Karachi range asks for three years and the next for two. Titles alone do not sort the list, though. A Karachi "senior" night-shift listing has a midpoint of $208, in the bottom third.
Commission is the norm in Pakistan and absent from India's listings
Twelve of the 15 Pakistani listings pay something on top of base: eight of 10 in Karachi and four of five in Lahore. Four state a rate:
- 5% commission on top of PKR 40,000 to 50,000 (Karachi).
- 3% to 6% per secured project on a PKR 25,000 base (Lahore).
- Tier-based commission up to 10% on PKR 50,000 to 60,000 (Lahore).
- 1% to 2% of revenue, by target reached, on PKR 50,000 to 80,000 (Lahore).
The rest say "commission on targets", "performance-based bonuses" or "retention bonus" without a number. None of the eight Indian listings mentions commission.
Commission turns a fixed cost into a share of what the bidder wins. Per $1,000 of work won, 1% costs $10, 5% costs $50 and 10% costs $100. At 5%, commission on $4,337 of won work a month equals Lahore's whole median base ($216.85 ÷ 0.05).
Outside Pakistan and India there is too little to print a number
We looked in three more markets and found too few listings for a typical figure:
- Ukraine. The role is advertised as a remote "Lead Generation Manager (Upwork)", paid in dollars. Three inactive listings offered $500 to $2,000 a month, $800 to $1,600, and $500 fixed plus a bonus per lead. Two of the three paired a salary with a percentage or per-lead bonus.
- Philippines. No "Upwork bidder" listings. The nearest were foreign clients hiring remotely: an Upwork and LinkedIn lead-generation role at $300 a month and a sales role at $4 to $6 an hour.
- Bangladesh. No listing with a stated salary.
The Ukrainian offers sit well above the South Asian medians, and the role differs: these are lead-generation jobs with a per-lead or percentage bonus, not proposal writing alone.
Connects cost the same whoever presses send
Every proposal costs Connects, and Upwork sets the number per job. Across 1,040 proposals Upsight submitted in the 30 days to 3 November 2026, the median job asked 15 Connects, the middle half 10 to 20, and the range ran from 6 to 27 (the full distribution). At $0.15 each that is $2.25 for the median proposal, $1.50 to $3.00 for the middle half, and $0.90 to $4.05 at the extremes.
“Connects cost $0.15 (USD) each and are sold in bundles.”
At the median, 100 proposals a month cost 1,500 Connects, $225; 250 cost $562.50; 500 cost $1,125. Connects are not refunded when the client rejects the proposal or the job expires without a hire (Upwork), and the price can change while the post is live (How to boost your proposal). Boosts come on top; see is boosting worth it.
This bill does not depend on who sends. Upwork lets an agency's business manager submit proposals for members, and every agency proposal draws on one shared balance (agency Connects, per How to manage your agency proposals and offers). The same is true of Agency Plus at $19.99 a month (Upwork). So the real comparison is the bidder's pay against the tool's fee.
Bidder vs tool at 100, 250 and 500 proposals a month
The tool side uses Upsight's published prices: $99 for 100 proposals, $249 for 250, $999 for 1,000, and $1 for each extra. The cheapest way to 500 a month is $499 (the $249 plan plus 250 extra, or the $99 plan plus 400; both come to $499). The bidder side is one person on the median base for each market.
- 100 a month: the tool costs $99 against $217 to $343. The tool is cheaper by $118 (Lahore) to $244 (Karachi).
- 250 a month: the tool costs $249. Lahore's $216.85 is $32.15 cheaper; India's $268.62 is $19.62 dearer; Karachi's $343.34 is $94.34 dearer.
- 500 a month: the tool costs $499. Every median bidder is cheaper before commission: by $155.66 in Karachi, $230.38 in India and $282.15 in Lahore.
Then add commission. At 500 a month, the Karachi bidder's $155.66 advantage is gone once 5% commission applies to more than $155.66 ÷ 0.05 = $3,113 of won work a month. For Lahore the line is $282.15 ÷ 0.05 = $5,643. At 10% both halve, to $1,557 and $2,822.
| Proposals a month | Connects | Tool plan | Tool total | Bidder total, Lahore | Bidder total, India | Bidder total, Karachi |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | $225.00 | $99.00 | $324.00 | $441.85 | $493.62 | $568.34 |
| 250 | $562.50 | $249.00 | $811.50 | $779.35 | $831.12 | $905.84 |
| 500 | $1,125.00 | $499.00 | $1,624.00 | $1,341.85 | $1,393.62 | $1,468.34 |
Connects = proposals × 15 × $0.15. Bidder base = the median advertised midpoint in USD. Add commission to the bidder columns and boosts to both sides.
Per proposal, the shapes differ. A salary is fixed, so a bidder gets cheaper the more they send: Karachi's base works out to $3.43 a proposal at 100, $1.37 at 250 and $0.69 at 500. A tool priced per proposal stays at about $1 ($0.99, $1.00, $1.00). Both sit on top of the same $2.25 in Connects.
A salaried bidder gets cheaper per proposal with volume; a per-proposal tool stays near $1.

What a bidder does that a tool cannot
The salary buys more than proposals. A bidder answers the client who replies, asks the questions that qualify the lead, books and runs the first call, and notices the post that is really a request for free work. A tool does none of that, and the conversation after a reply is where the work is won. For most agencies the honest comparison is not bidder against tool. It is a bidder on every step against a tool on the search and drafting plus a person on replies.
The salary also leaves costs out. The listings do not price equipment, office space, management time or a second shift, and one Karachi listing is explicitly for a night shift. We did not record a proposal quota from any listing, so the comparison above assumes one person at every volume. If your bidder cannot send 500 a month, you need two, and the bidder's cost doubles.
Upsight sits on the tool side of that split. Campaigns sweep the job feed every 15 minutes, score each job against criteria the agency writes, draft from the agency's knowledge profile and best-matched case studies, and size a boost to the live auction. Any campaign can require a person to approve every proposal before it is sent (approval mode), which turns a bidder's day from finding jobs into reviewing drafts and answering clients.
Work out your own number
- 1
Convert the bidder's real pay to dollars
Use base salary plus any fixed allowance, at the day's rate. The listings here are offers; your bidder's payslip is the number that counts.
- 2
Add commission per $1,000 won
At the bidder's rate, write down what each $1,000 of won work costs ($10 at 1%, $50 at 5%, $100 at 10%), then multiply by what the bidder actually won last month.
- 3
Count the proposals actually sent
Your Connects history shows every proposal. Divide the monthly cost by that count, not by the target in the job description.
- 4
Price Connects at your own median
Multiply proposals by your median Connects per proposal and by $0.15. If you have no history, 15 is the median across 1,040 recent sends. Add boosts separately.
- 5
Run both sides in the calculator
The bidder cost calculator takes base, commission, won revenue, proposals and Connects and prints both monthly totals side by side.

Questions
How much does an Upwork bidder earn in Pakistan?
In listings read on 3 November 2026, Karachi employers advertised PKR 40,000 to 150,000 a month, with the middle at PKR 95,000 (about $343). Lahore listings ran PKR 25,000 to 100,000, middle PKR 60,000 (about $217). Twelve of 15 added commission or bonuses, 1% to 10% where stated.
What is the salary of an Upwork bidder in India?
Eight Indian listings read on 3 November 2026 advertised ₹10,000 to ₹100,000 a month. The median of their midpoints was ₹25,500, about $269 at 94.93 rupees to the dollar. None of the eight stated a commission.
Do Upwork bidders get commission?
In Pakistan, usually. Twelve of 15 Karachi and Lahore listings offered commission or bonuses. Stated rates were 5% on top of base, 3% to 6% per secured project, tiers up to 10%, and 1% to 2% of revenue. At 5%, every $1,000 of won work adds $50.
Is it cheaper to hire an Upwork bidder or use a bidding tool?
It depends on volume. At 100 proposals a month a $99 tool costs less than a median bidder in Karachi ($343), Lahore ($217) or India ($269). At 500 a month the tool costs $499 and every median bidder is cheaper before commission, if one person can send that many. Connects cost the same either way.
How much do Connects cost a bidder per month?
At the median of 15 Connects a proposal and $0.15 a Connect, each proposal costs $2.25: $225 a month at 100 proposals, $562.50 at 250 and $1,125 at 500, before boosts. The cost is the same whether a person or a tool submits.
