Expert-Vetted

Expert-Vetted is Upwork's invitation-only badge for the top 1% of talent in selected categories, awarded after a screening by Upwork's Talent Managers that includes a 30-minute interview, and shown only to Enterprise and Business Plus clients.

Updated

Upwork says the badge "recognizes independent professionals who rank in the top 1% of their field on Upwork". It is "typically invitation-only": Upwork reaches out when a freelancer or agency in an eligible category qualifies, occasionally opens proactive applications, and then runs a screening "that tests your abilities and professionalism", including a 30-minute interview of technical and interpersonal skills. The interview can be rescheduled once with 24 hours' notice; arriving more than five minutes late counts as a miss. Only certain work categories are eligible and the list changes.

Unlike the other badges it is not shown to everyone. It "only displays to Enterprise and Business Plus clients", who also see the freelancer in expert-level searches. Holders get first invitations to privately posted projects, priority access to opportunities from Business Plus and Enterprise clients, and can offer consultations. There is no earnings threshold published; the criteria are "exceptional expertise", passing the Talent Manager screening, and "strong soft skills including excellent communication".

For a freelancer bidding on the open marketplace the badge changes little, because the clients who post there cannot see it. For an agency selling to Enterprise, it is the one badge that reaches the buyer.

How Upsight uses it. Upsight reads the badge where Upwork exposes it, on the roster and on page-one profiles in keyword rank tracking, and makes no attempt to predict who will be invited. Upwork Insights carries its share across the agency market.
