Total earnings
Total earnings is the lifetime amount a freelancer has earned on Upwork, shown on the public profile in rounded steps and counting hourly pay, milestones, Project Catalog sales, bonuses and other client payments released for withdrawal.

The figure includes everything earned as a freelancer and through any agency the freelancer belongs to. Only payments released and available for withdrawal count. Upwork warns that the earnings and hours on a profile are based on logged contract activity, may not reflect refunds, and are "estimates and may not always be exact".
It moves in steps. The first update comes once at least $1.00 is available to withdraw. Up to $100 it updates after each payment; then in $100 increments, so a profile shows $200 until it reaches $300. After $1,000 it moves in $1,000 steps, after $10,000 in $10,000 steps, after $100,000 in $100,000 steps and after $1 million in $1 million steps. By that rule, a profile showing $20K has earned at least $20K and less than $30K.
Hiding it. Only Freelancer Plus members can hide earnings, under Profile settings, Earnings privacy. That hides contract rates and total billings in the work history, but the hourly rate stays public, and clients still see earnings once you send a proposal or accept an invitation. Moving back to Basic makes hidden earnings public again. In an agency, the roster has its own privacy checkbox, and only the agency owner or an Account admin can change it for an exclusive member.
What it is used for. Earnings thresholds sit inside Rising Talent, Top Rated and Top Rated Plus, which use 12-month windows rather than this lifetime total.
How Upsight uses it. Upsight records the total each tracked profile shows in search every day, beside its jobs and hours. A zero in search is treated as hidden by privacy, never as a real zero, and is left out when the profile score compares earnings with the profiles ranked for the same keyword.
