Most Upwork jobs are posted between 14:00 and 19:00 UTC, mid-morning to mid-afternoon in New York: those five hours held 29% of 99,667 jobs posted 4 October to 2 November 2026. The hour a job is posted barely changes its final competition, 18.2 to 22.6 proposals at twelve hours, so the best time to bid is soon after a job appears. Night-posted jobs (UTC) draw fewer early proposals, and weekends post 43% fewer jobs a day.

Upwork posting peaks between 14:00 and 19:00 UTC

Upwork clients post on an office clock, and the clock is mostly American. Across 99,667 jobs posted between 4 October and 2 November 2026, the five hours starting 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00 and 18:00 UTC held 28,993 jobs, 29.1% of the total, against the 20.8% an even spread would give five hours. The single busiest hour was 15:00 UTC with 5,968 jobs, 2.2 times the 2,693 posted at 04:00 UTC, the quietest.

The day has a long shoulder on each side. The nine hours from 12:00 to 21:00 UTC carried 49.0% of the jobs, and the eight hours from midnight to 08:00 UTC carried 23.5%. Upwork never goes quiet: even its slowest hour posted about 90 jobs a day in this window (2,693 over 30 days).

What the peak is on your clock

Translate the peak into the hours your team works, and mind the clock changes inside the window.

  • New York. New York was on daylight time (UTC-4) until 1 November, so the peak ran 10:00 to 15:00 local time: the American working morning and early afternoon. From 1 November New York is on UTC-5.
  • London. On British Summer Time (UTC+1) until 25 October, the peak was 15:00 to 20:00. On GMT it is the same as UTC, 14:00 to 19:00.
  • Karachi and Lahore. Pakistan is UTC+5 all year, so the peak is 19:00 to midnight, and the quietest four hours, 03:00 to 07:00 UTC, are 08:00 to 12:00.
  • Manila. The Philippines is UTC+8, so the peak is 22:00 to 03:00.

If posting follows American office hours, as its position suggests, the UTC peak should sit an hour later through the winter, 15:00 to 20:00 UTC, now that New York has moved to UTC-5. We have not measured a winter month yet, so treat that as a reason to recheck, not as a finding. For a bidding team in Pakistan, India or the Philippines, the busiest stretch of the Upwork day falls in the evening and night.

New York is shown on daylight time (UTC-4), in force for 28 of the 30 days measured; from 1 November 2026 it is UTC-5, one hour earlier on the clock. Karachi is UTC+5 and Manila UTC+8 all year.

The hour changes the first hour, not the twelfth

A job's posting hour hardly changes how crowded it ends up. Average proposals at twelve hours ranged only from 18.2 (jobs posted at 22:00 UTC) to 22.6 (14:00 UTC) across the 24 hours. The share of jobs interviewing by twelve hours was just as flat, 43.2% to 47.7%.

What the hour changes is the pace. Jobs posted at 02:00 UTC had 8.4 proposals at one hour; jobs posted at 16:00 UTC had 14.1, 40% fewer for the night job. By twelve hours the night jobs had caught up. Dividing the one-hour mean by the twelve-hour mean gives a rough share of the half-day crowd that arrives in the first hour: about 43% for a 02:00 UTC job (8.4 over 19.7) against about 65% for one posted from 16:00 to 18:00 UTC (14.1 over 21.7). The two means cover slightly different sets of jobs, so treat those shares as approximate.

So a proposal sent within the hour on a job posted in the UTC night joins fewer rivals than the same proposal in the afternoon, and the crowd that follows is the same size. Across all hours, 55% of a job's twelve-hour proposals arrive in its first hour; our study of how fast Upwork jobs fill has the full curve.

Night-posted jobs start with 40% fewer proposals and catch up by twelve hours.

Weekends post 43% fewer jobs a day, and each draws fewer proposals

The week has a clear shape. Tuesday was the busiest day, at 4,090 jobs a day, and Saturday the quietest, at 2,131. Across the window a weekday averaged 3,820 new jobs (80,222 over 21 weekdays) and a weekend day 2,161 (19,445 over 9 weekend days), 43% fewer. Weekends were 30% of the days and 19.5% of the jobs. Upsight's Market tab shows the same dip every Saturday and Sunday.

Each weekend job also faces a thinner crowd. Saturday jobs averaged 15.6 proposals at twelve hours and Sunday jobs 16.4, against 20.8 to 22.5 on weekdays. Weighted by jobs posted, that is 16.0 at weekends against 21.9 on weekdays, 27% fewer. Freelancers take weekends off too, and in larger numbers than clients do.

A weekend day posts 2,161 Upwork jobs, against 3,820 on a weekday.

What one agency's sends say about timing

The job data says when the rooms are thin. Whether that turns into replies needs proposals, and the ones we can see are Vizio AI's own: the agency that builds Upsight, 9,816 applications from 1 August to 26 October 2026. Campaigns chose when to send, so this is a reading, not a controlled test.

  • Hour sent barely mattered. The reply rate by UTC band of sending was 4.8% (00:00 to 06:00), 5.4% (06:00 to 12:00), 5.2% (12:00 to 18:00) and 4.4% (18:00 to 24:00).
  • Weekends were read more. Weekend sends were viewed 23.0% of the time against 18.0% on weekdays, and replied to 6.0% against 4.7% (1,758 and 8,058 sends). Among boosted sends alone, weekend views were 25.4% against 20.7%.
  • Speed after posting mattered for views. Sends inside 15 minutes of posting were viewed 20.5% of the time, sends four to twelve hours later 12.5%.

That fits the job data: what counts is how soon after posting a proposal lands and how many others it lands among, not the hour on the clock. The full study is in what predicts an Upwork reply.

The best time to bid on Upwork

  1. 1

Bid within the hour of posting, whatever the hour

The final crowd is about the same size at every posting hour, but 55% of it arrives in the first hour. Upwork's own instant alerts exist so you can be among the first; they require Freelancer Plus and only follow proposals you sent as an individual, not through an agency, per How to get instant job alerts. Track your speed to bid.

  2. 2

Cover the UTC night if you can

Jobs posted from 21:00 to 08:00 UTC start with 8.4 to 10.4 proposals at one hour, against 13.6 to 14.1 in the afternoon peak. For a team in Karachi that is the early morning; for New York, the evening.

  3. 3

    Keep bidding at weekends

Weekends post 43% fewer jobs a day, but each draws about a quarter fewer proposals at twelve hours. A smaller weekend budget still buys proposals into thinner rooms.

  4. 4

Use the peak for volume, and filter harder in it

14:00 to 19:00 UTC brings the most new jobs, and the most rivals per job in the first hour. It is the time to be strict about fit and to decide quickly whether a boosted proposal is worth it on a crowded job.

  5. 5

Go back to the quiet ones later

A job with few proposals at eight or twelve hours, no hire and an active client is a late bidding candidate whatever hour it was posted. Read its proposals at 12 hours against the category's: see how many proposals a job gets by category.

Upsight's campaigns sweep the job feed every 15 minutes, around the clock, so a job posted at 03:00 UTC is scored and drafted as quickly as one posted at 15:00. Any campaign can require a person to approve every proposal before it is sent; for a team whose reviewers are offline during the peak, that review window is the setting to look at first.

How we measured it

Questions

What time are most Upwork jobs posted?

Between 14:00 and 19:00 UTC. 29% of 99,667 jobs posted from 4 October to 2 November 2026 fell in those five hours: 10:00 to 15:00 in New York on daylight time, 19:00 to midnight in Karachi and 22:00 to 03:00 in Manila. The quietest hour, 04:00 UTC, had less than half the jobs of 15:00 UTC.

What is the best time to apply for jobs on Upwork?

Soon after the job is posted, whatever the hour. Posting hour moved twelve-hour competition only from 18.2 to 22.6 proposals per job, while 55% of a job's twelve-hour proposals arrive in its first hour. Jobs posted at night UTC fill slowest at first: 8.4 proposals at one hour against 14.1 mid-afternoon.

Are there fewer Upwork jobs on weekends?

Yes. In October 2026 a weekend day averaged 2,161 new jobs against 3,820 on a weekday, 43% fewer. Each weekend job also drew fewer proposals at twelve hours: 15.6 on Saturday and 16.4 on Sunday, against 20.8 to 22.5 on weekdays.

What time are Upwork jobs posted in Pakistan time?

Pakistan is UTC+5 with no daylight saving, so the busiest posting hours, 14:00 to 19:00 UTC, are 19:00 to midnight in Karachi and Lahore. The quietest stretch, 03:00 to 07:00 UTC, is 08:00 to 12:00 in Pakistan. Jobs posted then still drew 20 to 22 proposals by twelve hours.

What is the best day of the week to bid on Upwork?

Weekdays carry the volume, with Tuesday busiest at 4,090 new jobs a day in October 2026. Weekends carry the thinner rooms: about a quarter fewer proposals per job at twelve hours. In one agency's 9,816 proposals, weekend sends were viewed 23.0% of the time against 18.0% on weekdays.
